Warm yourself up with a little treat

Here in upstate New York it's quite cold and rainy today. What better way to warm up than a nice hot cup of cocoa! Now normally I'd just whip out the hot cocoa mix that comes in the big canister, but today I decided to be adventurous and make a cup from scratch. It's a nice treat to make yourself on a day when you just want to sit in front of the fire place, put your fuzzy socks on and get cozy.

Homemade Hot Cocoa

1 1/2 Cups of Cold Milk
1/4 Cup of Powdered Sugar
2 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa
1/2 teaspoon Cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of salt
pinch of allspice*
pinch of cinnamon*
*allspice and cinnamon optional

Whisk all the ingredients together in a pan while cooking over medium-high heat.

Whisk Constantly while cooking until it boils (about 2 minutes) reduce the heat to Medium and proceed to whisk until it's thickened a little bit more ( about 45 seconds)

Pour into your favorite hot cocoa mug and you've got delicious homemade hot cocoa!

*whipped cream and cinnamon sticks are a great way to top your hot cocoa off if you want a little extra sweet topping.
*if you want even thicker hot cocoa you can use whipping cream instead of milk

I added allspice and cinnamon to give it an extra burst of flavor. Allspice is what is used in pumpkin pie, so it really adds a holiday feel to this hot cocoa!

Enjoy!
